NOTE: We're looking forward to seeing everyone at the solar eclipse watch event on Monday, August 21. Due to the high demand for eclipse glasses, we will issue vouchers for ISO certified safety viewing glasses at 10 a.m. on Monday on a first come first serve basis for those that have purchased Monday’s admission (or that are Members). The actual glasses will be distributed for those participants that have vouchers as the eclipse begins.
We'll be giving out several hundred vouchers for glasses to those attending our event. But, if we do happen to run out out, don't worry! There will be eclipse glasses and pinhole viewer sharing stations.
All hands-on activities, investigations, and classes related to the eclipse begin at 10 a.m. NOAA will be on site conducting citizen science with GLOBE, STEM Institute will be helping visitors work with pinhole viewers, Russell Davis Planetarium will be here, and LIVE streaming with NASA will be on hand, in case of inclement weather, to name a few of the event’s highlights.
Additionally, Bumpers and Hog Heaven will be on site, selling food.
EVENT DESCRIPTION
Join MDWFP's Mississippi Museum of Natural Science staff as we learn about the Solar #Eclipse2017 and watch it take place at the museum - OUTDOORS or INDOORS!
Approximately 86% of the sun will be blocked in Jackson for this special astronomical event.
NASA’s live feed of the eclipse will be viewed on the big screen from the museum’s Rotwein theater, starting at 12:15 p.m.
This event is included with museum admission: $6 for adults, $4 for youth ages 3-18, and free for children under than 3. FREE for Members. Senior and group rates are available; please call the museum for details at 601-576-6000.
**For Schools: Special arrangements can be made for an “eclipse class”, as space allows, before the eclipse. After the class, your group can join in on the eclipse party’s activity stations, and eclipse viewing. Contact the museum for additional information at 601.576.6000.
